Updated: May 20, 2010

On October 22, 2009, the Sacramento City Unified School District held ground breaking ceremonies, beginning the process of constructing the new Luther Burbank Regional Sports Complex which will be located on the Luther Burbank High School campus. The ceremony included a surprise visit from the Mayor of Sacramento, Kevin Johnson, who spoke with enthusiasm and excitement about the prospects of this new “state of the art” sports facility planned for the Sacramento region.

Thank you for visiting the Luther Burbank Regional School Complex informational website. Be sure to check back periodically for the project updates as the site will be updated as new information develops and becomes available.

Project Update – August 2010

Phase I Increment I of the field project is under review by DSA.  We are expecting the review to be completed by the end of August; with construction starting soon after.  Phase I Increment II will be submitted to DSA this week; the review should be complete around the time when Increment I construction is completed.  Increment II consists of the construction of the bleachers. classrooms, ticket booths, and concession stand.

Phases II and III are currently in the Design Development stage of design; the City of Sacramento has reviewed and approved the 75% Design Development Drawings for these two phases.  The next submission from the design team is scheduled for the end of August.

Project Update – May 2010

During the month of April the design development phase of the project was completed. The 50% Construction Documents for Phase I Increment I have now been submitted to the construction team and the district for their review. All of the comments from the district and the construction team will be incorporated into the 100% Construction Documents, which are scheduled for submission the first week of June.

The grant application for proposition 84 is still under review.

The budget for Phase I is being refined as each stage of the design process is completed.

The schools’ requirements, set forth by CEQA, are still underway and scheduled for completion by the first week in June.

Project Update – April 2010

During the month of March the schematic design process was completed; the project is now in the design and development phase. With this change the design team is now focusing on more of the unique aspects related to this project. This process includes the development of specification, the development of construction details, and the development of project specific information. The design development phase should be completed by the end of March 2010. After the completion of the design development phase the project will move into the construction document phase.

The project team has had their first meeting with DSA, they successfully communicated to DSA the project description and incorporated DSA’s initial comments into the current design.

The Proposition 84 Grant Application for Phase II of the project was completed and submitted; a response to the grant application should be received in approximately six months.
